What is Regenerative Medicine?
Regenerative medicine restores normal body functions by replacing, engineering or re-engineering human cells, tissues or organs. Your body can actually heal itself, including tissue that has been injured or is aging. Stem cells in your body do what they were designed to do by renewing and repairing cells. These stem cells can change into the proper cell needed to heal an injury, which is called differentiating. Healthy, young and effective stems cells can differentiate.
As we age, studies have show that the natural ability of our stem cells to renew and restore diminishes. This means our natural cells simply are not as efficient or effective as they were when we were young. And, we actually have fewer healthy stem cells as we age, making it more difficult to heal quickly. Regenerative medicine uses young, healthy stem cells, growth factors and other healing components from allografts (donated tissue) to help your body heal.
